Your Local Council

A Fire Safety Certificate is submitted by or on behalf of the building owner, and certifies that specified essential fire safety measures have been installed and perform in accordance with the relevant BCA requirements and Australian Standards.

An Annual Fire Safety Statement is then prepared on a yearly basis, certifying that the essential fire safety measures have been tested, are operational and have been maintained in accordance with the relevant requirements and standards. This statement certifies that a qualified person has assessed the fire safety measures and found that them to be performing to the appropriate standard.

In most cases, the council issues a reminder notice about these statements. This notice lists all the relevant essential fire safety measures which require certification. It is important to keep in mind that the council isn’t required to send this reminder to you; it is your responsibility to keep track of when you have to send out the relevant Statement. As a business owner, it’s your obligation to make sure that your business’s Statements meets requirements. FireSafe can assist with this!
